Birdwatching in La Rioja (Whole Day)

The bird life of the forest is extremely rich and diverse in the high valleys that outline the banks of the Oja river. A large quantity of natural habitats, that allows the observation of an interesting number of bird species at any time of the year. Spring is the best season, when birds of all kinds sing the nicest songs and chirpings, flooding the landscape with their melodies. In autumn, the high passes in the Sierra acquire great importance, as they are being crossed by thousands of individuals during their long migratory journeys. In winter, the group of aquatic birds gains interest, settled in the several wetlands from the lower part of River Ebro’s valley.
Includes: accompanying ornithological guide, off-road vehicle transportation, optical equipment for observation, binoculars and spotting scope, picnic for whole-day visits. Duration: Whole Day (aprox. 7 hours). Season: All year round.

Wildlife Viewing at Dusk

A great opportunity to discover the native fauna of La Rioja’s Sierra de la Demanda, accompanied by a specialised naturalist guide. In the summer and autumn evenings, deer, roe deer and boars use the last hours of daylight to feed in the most hidden and quiet spots in the high mountains of the Sierra. It is at that moment when we are most able to see the various wild species, often forming large family groups scattered between the meadows and clearings of the woods. You only need to know where to look for them to identify them as precisely and quietly as possible.
Off-road vehicle route at dusk on high mountain ecosystems. Viewing from strategic stops with good visibility. Includes: accompanying guide and optical equipment for observation, binoculars and spotting scope. Dusk from the high peaks of Ezcaray. Duration: 3 hours. Season: June-September. Good weather conditions are essential.

Deer Bellowing

The deer bellowing, as symbol of autumn, is one of the most phenomenal and striking spectacles of Iberian nature. The valley of Ezcaray, along with the high areas of the Sierra de La Demanda and its spellbinding autumnal landscapes, is guaranteed to be an exceptional location in La Rioja. To succeed at seeing and hearing it in the best conditions, we provide off-road vehicle transportation, optical equipment and, more importantly, a guide and environmental interpreter who will help you locate the closest specimens of the area, from strategic observation points, always respecting a minimum security distance and without causing any disturbances. During the visit, insightful facts on the biology and behaviour of the deer in the High Valley of Oja will be shared with the visitors.
Outings at dawn or dusk. Duration: 3 hours. We recommend bringing warm clothes for the mountain.
Season: Autumn (15 September- 15 October). To be booked in advance.
